Under the guidance of Prof. Chiu I-Hsu, Tan Kag Chien-Hui, Chen Ying-Ju, Fu Wen-Mao and Yang Jia-Yu were awarded the First Place and the Second Place in Kohsiung Port Station Urban Design Competition sponsored by Kaohsiung¡¦s Urban Development Bureau.

Kaohsiung¡¦s Urban Development Bureau sponsored Kaohsiung Port Station Urban Design Competition to invite young designers to bring their talents under the categories of ¡§Design to Station Culture Industry¡¨ and ¡§Landscape Creative Design¡¨. With the input of young artists¡¦ creative ideas, Kaohsiung¡¦s UDB hopes that they can find innovative design concepts to help their plan for multi-facet, creative urban development. With the introduction of Pier 2 Warehouse Artwork Exhibit Area and the facelift of some old wharf building to benefit from sightseeing, the Kaohsiung¡¦s old harbor area is transforming into a tourist attraction. The development of the Right-Bank Culture Park of the Lovers¡¦ River also includes some idle old warehouses and railroads along the harbor. Eventually, the Pier 2 Park of folk art exhibits will merge with Rail Culture Park surrounding Kaohsiung Harbor Station of Taiwan Railway to turn the old harbor area into a full-fledged culture park, which will in turn help boost the city¡¦s tourist and culture industries and bring about a new era of multi-facet urban development in terms of creative culture, tourist business, and exhibition center.

Tan Kag Chien-Hui, Chen Ying-Ju, Fu Wen-Mao and Yang Jia-Yu, under the guidance of Prof. Chiu I-Hsu, entered this year¡¦s Kohsiung Port Station Urban Design Competition sponsored by Kaohsiung¡¦s Urban Development Bureau. Their works, ¡§New Heart Carving on Old Cheng¡¨ and ¡§Colorful Yancheng Walls¡¨ were awarded the First Place of ¡§Design to Station Culture Industry¡¨ and the Second Place of ¡§Landscape Creative Design¡¨ respectively.

"New Heart Carving on Old Cheng" is designed to assimilate the local metal art crafts with the unique harbor environment so as to bring the local history and culture alive. The old warehouse buildings are reconfigured into a variety of spaces to avoid visual monotony. Some spaces are kept as open ones to house performing art exhibitions of street artists and other stage performing activities. The old warehouse buildings can be regarded as part of the Pier 2 Culture Park expansion and they are expected to link with the Pop Music Center to facilitate the creative culture business development of Yancheng District. This line of development does envision the possibilities of merging the local culture with the new generation art elements.

"Colorful Yancheng Walls" demonstrates a divided building walls design ¡V one model for public buildings and the other for residential buildings. The design of the fronts of public buildings is inspired by the texture of metropolitan lives in Kaohsiung as an international port city. Sections of city life are captured for display in front of public buildings. On the other hand, walls of residential buildings are decorated with layered wavy still structures to exhibit Kaohsiung¡¦s unique harbor residents¡¦ lives in different harbor complexes.
